You are not exactly human!

You are not human!

spiritual-rebirth

2 Peter 1 : 3  His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Okay, that may be a bit radical. But you are not normal. Okay, maybe that’s also a little far-fetched, but I am sure if you read the verse above you will understand what I am saying – tongue-in-cheek.

What does it mean to participate in the divine nature?

Well we know that divine means “of God”. We are not God, but we have been brought into a unique place through God’s grace and that is we have become participants in his divine nature. We read so many verses in the Scriptures which tell us that we:

  • have been brought from death unto life
  • we do not walk by sight, we walk by faith
  • we do not live by things which are seen, but by things which are unseen
  • we are new creatures, the old has gone and everything has become new

I could go on and on as there are many other verses like this. Do we however even get it? Do we grasp what it is that God is doing in us? What does it mean that we are a new creation?

All of this is referring to our inner man. We are made in God’s image – body, soul and spirit (we are three parts). Our body which the Bible usually refers to as the flesh, is what we see, feel, touch and do. It is what we experience and we are so programmed and accustomed to judging everything by experience that we struggle to see things in the other realm. The other realm is the spirit. You are both flesh (body) and spirit. It is in our spirit that we have become participants of God’s divine nature. That means we have been made like him to some degree? What exactly has changed when we receive Jesus as Saviour?

The predominant thing is that our spirit renewed (made alive) – or reborn. Sin causes a man’s spirit to die. This death is not an actual death 0 it means to be separated from God. When we say someone dies, we mean their heart has stopped beating and their body and brain no longer functions. But we have more than enough anecdotal evidence of life after death, even if you don’t believe the Bible. That life after death is actually just the spirit living on. You have heard of people saying they have had an out of body experience? Well that is simply their spirit leaving their body.

When we die, our spirit leaves the body and goes to its eternal place of rest or unrest, depending on our choices we made before death. Jesus said that those who believe in him will never die, but will have eternal life. The moment we receive Christ our spirit which is separated from God by sin, is brought back to God and renewed once and for all time.

We would love to hear what you have to say
