Many Christians are very good at talking the talk. But no as many are quite as good as walking the walk. Today, I look at how to spot a fake Christian by their lifestyle.
When you are born again the Holy Spirit, indwells you. He moves in and takes up residence in your life. He is God. So God lives in you. The Bible actually calls our body the temple of the Holy Spirit. Wherever you go, He goes with you. I once heard someone talk about someone else who drove their motor vehicle at an excessive speed. “He drove so fast that even the angels got out” he joked. Whilst it makes quite a good joke, it is entirely inaccurate. How many times have you not read in the Bible the promise that comes from God right from the Old Testament times that ” I will never leave you nor forsake you”. This is a solemn promise by Almighty God. So if you decide to walk into a strip club or a party where everyone is doing cocaine, then God goes with you. How would you feel if Jesus was standing right next to you? Well in a sense He is. But because He is spirit, we conveniently forget about him at those times.
People who are not yet saved are always watching Christians. They hear what we say but even more importantly they watch what we do. If we say one thong but live another, then we are hypocrites and they will be quick to shout it from the rooftops. People are looking for authentic in this day and age. People have enough low quality rip-offs, fakes and replicas to last a life time. We are always in search for the genuine article.
Jesus said that people will know us by two signs – one is that we will bear fruit and two is that we love one another. The Bible says that love covers a multitude of sins. This means that when you have love, you can excuse so much that someone does that is wrong. When we have love for one another, we stop focusing on their faults and we become great witnesses for Jesus.
A fake is someone who professes to love the Lord, but wen you look at their lifestyle you just know they are not what they say they are. They have no love for their fellow man (and by love I mean godly fellow-love) and they do not have fruit. Jesus said that those who know him are branches of the vine. Jesus is the vine and the branches (which are his followers) bear much fruit. So they don’t just have a little fruit, They have loads of fruit. Fruit is love, patience, kindness, goodness, godliness, brotherly love etc.
The more we know Jesus, the more we become like him.
