Christians who can’t get out of bed 1

Do you look at your life and just feel that everything is pointless? Maybe you don’t recognise apathy in your life. Perhaps it presents as lack of interest and a lack of energy to do much. Apathy can lead to people dropping out of college, perform badly at work and so get fired, and give up on relationships which then leads to a breakdown in the relationship.

Some people cannot see importance in anything they do. Many kids at college don’t care about the classes they’re in or the world in which they live.  This leads them to miss opportunities that arise in their lives. It must be truly terrible to feel that most of what you do is pointless.  It must make someone feel pretty powerless and insignificant.

Apathy usually means a state of not caring, and having no enthusiasm or hope or even excitement about anything in our minds or our spirits.  The apathetic person simply seems not to care about anything, and just watches life go by. The problem with apathy is that it spirals and often ends up in depression.

Jesus came to bring us abundant life. Apathy certainly is not abundant life. In fact it is quite the opposite. Jesus was a caring person. He went about healing and delivering all who were oppressed by the devil.  Jesus noticed people, even tax collectors who climbed up trees. Jesus was found at weddings and at the temple. He was always busy and he had a purpose. Perhaps that is what leads to apathy, a lack of purpose. When you just cannot see the point, you become apathetic, after all what does it matter what you do or say?

What does the Bible say about people who feel lost and alone?

Jesus said come to me all who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Apathy may be a lack of purpose and direction, but it usually arises when we are burdened by something. When we feel under pressure to perform in an area where we cannot see the purpose, we can lose our way and we get bogged down. Jesus said He will give rest. That is a promise!  Rest from what? Rest from whatever you need to get rest from. You need a rest from apathy – you need a reason to get up in the morning and to feel you are making a difference. God has called you to make a difference.

Ephesians 4:18  being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart

planand directWhen people exclude God from their lives they risk the danger of missing the whole point of life, which is to get to know our Creator, develop a relationship with Him and bring others into this same relationship. When Jesus is given centre stage, you will never be directionless. God says that he will direct our steps when we submit to him and ask him to lead us. He leads us into the life of abundance. God comes to bring joy, and there is no joy in apathy. If you have lost direction, and feel useless and cannot even get out of bed on some days, may I suggest you call out to God? Tell Him about how you feel, and ask Him to lead you into a life of meaning.  Tell someone at church and ask them to pray for you, and I promise you God will turn your life into something full of purpose.
